ICARES 2014

2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology (ICARES 2014) event become a unique opportunity for the AES (Aerospace and Electronic Systems), GRS (Geoscience and Remote Sensing) and other IEEE chapters to exchange views and disseminating new trends and advances in the respected fields.

ICARES 2014 Successfully held on 13-14 November 2014 at Sheraton Mustika Resort Yogyakarta. This conference attended by more than 100 participants from 13 Countries. To maintain the conference quality, total 162 qualified reviewers all from all around the world have reviewed total 80 papers submitted with an acceptance rate of 53%. A technical activity has been organized jointly by and between Technical Committee on Space, Aeronautical and Navigational Electronics (SANE), IEICE, and GRSS CHAPNET 2017 (IEEE GRSS All Japan Chapter, IEEE GRSS Gujarat India and IEEE GRSS/AESS Indonesia).

The above said GRSS CHAPNET Workshop represents a Special Lecture Session, being a part of the two-day technical meeting consists of two folds of workshops:

  • Workshop on GPR measurements of active faults and tsunami sediments
  • Workshop on Subsurface Electronic Measurements.

In particular, the CHAPNET workshop has been scheduled as a one session in the Workshop on Subsurface Electronic Measurements.

COOPERATION BETWEEN INDONESIAN SOCIETY OF REMOTE SENSING AND GRSS/AESS JOINT CHAPTER, INDONESIA SECTION OF IEEE

GRSS/AESS J. Chapter of Indonesia Section has met with the Indonesian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS, or MAPIN, as it is called, locally) on 14 December 2016, at PT UNISAT Office in Jakarta, Indonesia. The purpose of the meeting was to explore a possibility for two organization to support each other in advancing the activities in the Remote Sensing Research, Education, and Industry. This is inspired and driven by the fact that there are more and more requirement in the government managements to being assisted by the Remote Sensing Data and Information.

The two organizations have finally agreed to bound up one another in the upcoming years toward the strengthening the presence of Remote Sensing Technology in assisting the society in resolving their daily problems : the agriculture, forestries, environment, city planning, fisheries, weather forecasts, security, transportation, etc.

In particular, they will be cooperating each other (in future) in supporting two major events during the year in Remote Sensing Technology.

SHORT COURSE ON STOCHASTIC OPTIMAL CONTROL, APPLIED FOR AEROSPACE ELECTRONICS

The Short Course on STOCHASTIC OPTIMAL CONTROL, Applied for Aerospace Electronics, is about the introduction of the said subject, delivered to the students, lecturers, and professionals, at the Telkom University, Bandung Indonesia.

The syllabus of the course consists of two big subjects : a) Kalman Filter, b) Incorporation of the Kalman Filter at the Optimal Control. The course was given by Arifin Nugroho (Sr. Life Member of IEEE, also a CTO at UNISAT Co) and Larasmoyo Nugroho (Non Member, working as an Aerospace Designer at LAPAN (Indonesian Aerospace Agency). To make the course enjoyable to the audience who were mostly undergraduate students, the lecturers organized the course in a Teaming Lecturing. The first speaker delivered mostly the conceptual parts of the subject(s) whereas the second gave the vibrance by delivering numerous examples backed up by Matlabs-run results, plus some drawn from existing on-line of Kalman Filtering illustrations.

It was quite an experience to teach in less than a day the audience with less familiarity in ODE, matrix analysis, functional analysis, stochastic process and optimal control, which forced the speakers to do more heuristic approach in delivering the materials, with an attempt to show more practical synthesis.

GRSS-AESS JOINT CHAPTER OF INDONESIA SECTION OF IEEE MEETING

The meeting had the following Agenda : 1) To talk about the Indonesia Section participation at the 14th Workshop on Subsurface Electromagnetic Measurements to be held on 4th and 5th October, 2017 at Maison Franco-Japonaise (3-9-25, Ebisu, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, 150-0013, Japan), 2) The appointment of Program Officer for GRSS, Indonesia Section, 3) The appointment of Program Officer for AESS.

The meeting has resulted the following :

1) The Joint Chapter has agreed to send Mr. Oni Bibin Bintoro, to present the research paper with title :

Characterizing Peat Thickness Based on Common Mid Point (CMP) Ground Penetrating Radar – a Preliminary Result.

at the workshop which will be presented on 4-5 September 2017, in Tokyo, Japan.

The Workshop’s committee has advised its agreement to accept the paper.

2) The meeting has agreed to nominate Mr. Oni Bibin Bintoro to be J- Chapter Secretary, at the GRSS-AESS Joint Chapter, Indonesia Section of IEEE.

3) The meeting also agreed to appoint Mr. Wahyudi Hasbi, to be the Vice Chair at the GRSS-AESS Joint Chapter, Indonesia Section of IEEE.

4) Finally, the meeting has also agreed to appoint Mr. Arief Hamdani Gunawan, to be the Treasurer at the GRSS-AESS Joint Chapter, Indonesia Section of IEEE.

Participation in ICARES 2018 is open to all individuals interested in or working in the fields of Aerospace & Electronic System and Geoscience & remote sensing. Papers received by the deadline will be considered for program placement under the standard peer review process. Late Papers cannot be accepted due to a large number of submissions and short review schedule. The ICARES 2018 Technical Program Committee will organize all accepted papers into either oral or interactive poster sessions based upon their potential contribution to the conference and the composition of high-quality sessions.

  3. Since the IEEE Xplore® system publications where there are increasing deep checks for plagiarism, all material without a cited source must be your original work, both text, and illustrations. Acts of plagiarism will be pursued with the IEEE. These matters are taken very seriously and the IEEE will take action against any author who engages in either practice.   4. Electronic media containing all ICARES 2018 full proceedings papers will be distributed to all registered attendees at the conference.
  5. During the initial paper submission process via EDAS, the authors are required to make sure the pdf file and EDAS registration page of a paper have the same list of authors and the paper title. Be certain to add all authors in EDAS during the submission process. Failure to comply with this rule and your paper may be withdrawn from the review process. Once reviewed the listing of authors connected to the paper can NOT be changed in the final manuscript.
  6. For an author with multiple accepted papers, one full registration is valid for 1 paper
  7. Authors MUST submit their papers electronically using EDAS. The submission process involves the following three steps:

Due to the limited number of rooms and time at the Convention Center, a portion of the accepted papers will be presented as posters. The ICARES 2018 Technical Program Committee will decide which papers will be presented in oral (lecture type) sessions and which papers as posters and the decisions will be announced to the authors shortly. The choice between oral and poster presentations will be totally independent of the review scores and of the paper quality.

Selamat datang di Indonesia Joint Chapter dari Aerospace & Electronics System Society dan Geoscience & Remote Sensing Society!

Joint Aerospace & Electronics System Society dan Geoscience & Remote Sensing Society telah diputuskan berdiri oleh IEEE HQ pada bulan Mei 2013 yang lalu.

Chapter gabungan ini diharapkan akan menjadi platform bagi para anggota yang tertarik dalam bidang Aerospace & Electronics maupun Geoscience & Remote Sensing.

Untuk menjadi anggota Chapter ini, caranya gampang.

Mendaftar saja di IEEE melalui ieee.org, untuk menjadi anggota IEEE. Kemudian, setelah itu baru mendaftarkan ke salah satu Society, apakah AES ataupun GRS. Tapi juga boleh dua-duanya.

Kami telah mengadakan pelbagai pertemuan teknik termasuk symposium, konperensi, seminar, workshop, tutorial, dst. Dalam setahun ada satu atau dua pertemuan teknik akbar, dua kali tutorial, member gathering, pertemuan anggota untuk pemilihan pengurus untuk tahun berikutnya. Kita juga bisa mengadakan konperensi internasional secara mandiri ataupun bersama-sama dengan chapter lain, ataupun dengan organisasi nasional lainnya seperti Lapan dan BPPT.

Dalam setiap gathering akan dicoba memperoleh sponsor sehingga diperoleh suatu sinerji timbal balik antara IEEE dengan industry.

Dua Society ini kami ajukan berdasarkan pengamatan telah adanya berbagai kenyataan sbb :

  1. Kegiatan design payload roket seperti Komurindo menunjukkan kenaikan konstan dari peserta dari tahun ketahun
  2. Lapan secara sistematis telah melakukan riset, desain, implementasi pelbagai platform aerospace , yaitu satelit mikro untuk observasi bumi maupun komunikasi, UAV untuk pemotretan dari udara, serta roket untuk membawa pelbagai payload atau transponders.
  3. Lapan juga secara kontinu meningkatkan kemampuannya untuk mengolah data citra (imager) yang datangnya dari pelbagai Earth Observation Satellite (EOS) baik optis maupun radar. Kemudian mereka juga melakukan pengukuran atmosfir dan ionosfir serta pelbagai kegiatan saintifik lainnya : instrument untuk kestabilan pesawat(gyro-wheel), serta pengintegrasian pelbagai komponen sensor.
  4. Kegiatan pengontrolan maneuver UAV juga diminati dikalangan mahasiswa dan dosen
  5. Adanya perhimpunan beberapa Universitas dalam pengembangan bersama satelit nano bagi keperluan riset dan edukasi , yaitu kegiatan riset INSPIRE (Indonesian Nano Satellite Platform for Research and Education). Kegiatan ini telah menimbulkan gelombang desain diantara universitas sampai ketingkat embedded system untuk spacecraft data handling, spacecraft body, power system, remote sensing payload, telemetry, telecommand, maupun tracking earth station.
  6. Seminar tahunan dalam bidang teknologi satelit (ISCOS) yang telah terus menerus diadakan di ITS sejak tahun 2010.
  7. Kegiatan pengolahan data satelit telah diminati oleh pelbagai departemen dan universitas dalam kegiatan seperti internasional seperti ACRS dsb, terbukti dari jumlah paper yang semakin banyak.

Dengan melihat pelbagai kenyataan diatas mendorong beberapa rekan insinyur baik dalam dan luar negeri untuk segera medirikan masyarakat ilmiah dilingkungan IEEE yaitu AESS-GRSS. Tokoh yang sangat menonjol dan sangat berjasa untuk memperjuangkan approval dari IEEE adalah Prof Josaphat Tetuko Sri Sumantyo (kepala Lab Remote Sensing dari Chiba University) dan Prof Wolfgang Martin Boerner, seorang professor emeritus dari Chicago.

Kini IEEE Indonesia sudah mempunyai platform untuk secara bersama meningkatkan kegiatan riset dan disain baik dikalangan universitas, lembaga penelitian, maupu industry didalam bidang yang sangat strategis untuk kita semua. Kedepan kita akan galakkan adanya symposium maupun konperensi local, nasional, regional maupun internasional, sehingga partisipasi Indonesia semakin meningkat didalamnya. Kita juga akan meningkatkan tutorial dalam dua bidang yang sangat luas ini, baik secara fisik maupun secara internet. Contoh yang dilakukan oleh Telkom University di Bandung untuk menyelenggarakan kuliah S2 dibidang saintifik melalui Internet kiranya patut untuk ditiru, bahwa tutorial interaktif dalam bidang yang penuh dengan model matematispun bisa dilaksanakan dengan Internet.

Kerjasama internasional antar lembaga penelitian dalam bidang remote sensing perlu ditingkatkan seperti yang dilakukan oleh Chiba University untuk mengajak pelbagai Universitas di Indonesia untuk mengadakan riset bersama. Satelit DLR Jerman juga menawarkan data-data radar untuk diolah dan diklasifikasi untuk pelbagai keperluan kehutanan, penghijauan, pengendalian polusi, banjir, dan persoalan lingkungan lainnya. Kiranya kegiatan riset dan rekayasa yang dimotori oleh Lapan harus kita jadikan referensi nasional kita.

Negara kita yang sangat luas ini membutuhkan keahlian pelbagai bidang terutama dalam bidang strategis seperti UAV, pesawat, roket dan satelit. Bidang tersebut harus bisa dikuasai secara mandiri karena tidak mungkin terjadi alih teknologi secara cuma-cuma. Kita harus mencontoh India yang sudah demikian gigihnya mengembangkan roket dan satelit. Lahir hampir bersamaan dengan Lapan sekitar tahun 50-an, namun dua minggu yang lalu ISRO telah mengirim satelit observasinya ke planet Mars. Saintis India pernah mengatakan: kita jangan mimpi untuk mendapatkan teknologi ruang angkasa tetapi harus kita kembangkan sendiri, dan harus kita temukan sendiri. Teknologi material, chemical propulsion, electric propulsion, control dan navigasi roket, UAV beserta kontrolnya, satelit dan attitude control nya, telemetri, pengolahan data telemetri, peningkatan kualitas roket dengan pengukuran pelbagai data fisik seperti temperature, stress dan strain dari material, dst… harus kita kembangkan dengan model matematik dan tools yang memadai dan modern. Di Amerika para engineers bersatu padu dalam AIAA, di samping dalam IEEE.

Kami, AESS-GRSS dari Indonesia Section, ingin menghimpun dan mengkoordinasikan kegiatan yang sangat luas ini demi peminatan dikalangan insinyur-insinyur muda untuk dapat mengambil bagian dalam desain dan rekayasa aerospace electronics dan geosciences & remote sensing. Marilah kita jadikan Website kita sebagai ajang berkomunikasi dalam bidang strategis ini diantara kita, dan untuk mengkomunikasikan terutama kepada pemerintah Indonesia, untuk menyadari bahwa bidang aerospace itu hanya bisa tumbuh subur karena adanya visi yang kuat dari pemerintah dalam memberikan dukungan yang penuh dalam membiayai penelitian, maupun pengembangan program-program strategis pemerintah termasuk untuk keperluan strategic militer.

Perlu dibangunnya komunitas yang kuat demi memajukan penguasaan teknologi AES dan GRS, untuk memposisikan kita agar lebih baik dan terhormat dimata bangsa-bangsa lain.
